Switching off after work

If work matters are still going round in your head in the evening, your body and mind can't recover. Psychological detachment from work is one of the most researched ways to recover, and you can practise it like any other skill.

You will need

Steps

  1. Make an end-of-day list

In the last 10 minutes of the working day, write down unfinished tasks and tomorrow's three most important tasks. Once things are on paper, your brain doesn't need to hold on to them.

  2. Close your work tools visibly

  3. Build a transition ritual

  4. Limit your work phone use

  5. Move your thoughts elsewhere

  6. Deal with work worries as agreed

  7. Raise it at work
