Bilateral breathing in front crawl

Breathing to both sides evens out your front crawl, keeps your body straight and makes open-water swimming easier. It takes some practice at first, but the benefit is big.

You will need

Steps

  1. Find your weaker side

Most people have one side that feels more natural for breathing. Practise your weaker side separately.

  2. Kickboard drill

  3. One-arm front crawl

  4. Breathe out calmly

  5. Start with a three-stroke rhythm

  6. Keep your head low

  7. Vary the rhythm

  8. Practise in every session
