Asking for help naturally

Many Finns would rather manage alone than ask for help, and that can lead to exhaustion. Asking for help is a skill that strengthens relationships when it is done clearly and with respect for the other person's boundaries.

  1. Identify your needs

Write down exactly what you need help with: carrying things during a move, childcare, a lift or advice. The more concrete the need, the easier it is for someone to help.

  2. Choose the right person

  3. Ask clearly

  4. Leave room to say no

  5. Accept a no

  6. Thank them and say what it meant

  7. Offer help in return

  8. Use services as well
