Darning a wool sock
Good wool socks last for years when holes are darned in time. Darning is also an eco-friendly and quick skill that you can learn in one evening.
You will need
- Wool yarn that matches the sock or in a contrasting colour
- A blunt darning needle
- A darning mushroom, light bulb or round object to put inside the sock
- Scissors
Steps
Choose the yarn
Choose a wool yarn that is as fine as the sock yarn or slightly finer. Yarn that is too thick creates a hard spot that rubs inside your shoe.
Put a support inside the sock
Mark out the area to reinforce
Make the vertical threads
Weave horizontally
Keep the tension even
Try Swiss darning
Finish off and care for the socks
