Replace the silicone seal in your bathroom
A darkened or loose silicone seal lets moisture into the structures. Replacing the sealant is a cheap and fairly easy job that is worth doing as soon as the seal starts to deteriorate.
You will need
- Sanitary silicone (with anti-mould protection)
- Caulking gun
- Silicone remover and a plastic scraper or utility knife
- Masking tape
- Sealant smoothing tool or soapy water
- Methylated spirit and a cloth
Steps
Assess the condition of the seal
If there is moisture behind the seal, black mould under the tiles or the waterproofing is damaged, call a professional. Surface darkening alone can be fixed at home.

Remove the residue
Clean and dry
Tape the edges
