Building drip irrigation
Drip irrigation delivers water straight to the base of the plant, so the water does not evaporate and the leaves stay dry, which reduces plant diseases. You can build the system from a ready-made kit or connect it to a rain barrel.
You will need
- A drip irrigation kit or drip hose
- Connectors and a pressure reducer if connecting to the mains water supply
- A timer (optional)
- A rain barrel if you want to use rainwater
- Scissors and a tape measure
Steps
Measure the area
Measure the length of the plant rows and the number of plants and draw a picture of the area. Mark the location of the water point or rain barrel on it.
Choose a system
Consider the water source
Install the main hose
Position the drip points
Test and adjust
Add a timer
Maintain it in autumn
