Piano: your first pieces

Once you've mastered the basic posture and C position, you can play your first pieces. Start with one-handed melodies and then add an accompaniment.

You will need

• Your instrument
• Sheet music, tabs or an app
• Metronome

Steps

1. Choose an easy piece

   Choose a folk song or an easy classical tune, such as Ode to Joy.

2. Learn the melody with your right hand

3. Add your left hand

4. Play slowly

5. Increase the tempo

6. Add dynamics

7. Play the whole piece
