Weaving a paper cord basket
A paper cord basket is a popular, inexpensive craft that gives you a storage basket, a plant pot cover or a gift. This guide shows you how to make a round basket using the basic method, after which you can try other designs.
You will need
- Paper cord in 1–2 colours
- Cardboard or a wooden board for the base
- A mould, e.g. a bowl or a jar
- Clothes pegs
- Craft glue and scissors
- A tape measure
Steps
Cut the stakes
Cut the stakes (the upright cords) according to the basket's diameter and height: the length is about the base diameter plus twice the height plus 10 cm. A small basket usually needs 8–12 cords.
Make the base
Weave the base rounds
Raise the stakes
Weave the sides
Join in new cord
Finish the rim
