Walking your cat on a harness
Harness walks give an indoor cat stimulation without the risks of roaming free, such as traffic and getting lost. A cat does not walk like a dog but explores its surroundings at its own pace. Start practising indoors and go at your cat's pace.
You will need
- A suitable H-harness or vest harness for cats
- A light lead of 2–3 metres
- Treats
- A carrier
Steps
Choose the right harness
Choose an adjustable harness designed for cats. A collar is not suitable for walking a cat outdoors, because the cat can wriggle out of it or be strangled.
Introduce the harness
Put the harness on briefly
Practise indoors
Start in a quiet place
Let your cat choose the direction
Keep safety close
Look after its health
