Replacing window seals
Worn window seals let in cold air and draughts. Replacing the seals is an easy and cheap way to cut heating costs.
You will need
- New seals (to match the profile)
- Scissors or a utility knife
- Cleaner and a cloth
- Tape measure
- Screwdriver for opening the window frames
Steps
Check the condition of the old seals
A hard, flattened or cracked seal needs replacing. You can test for draughts with a piece of paper: if you can easily pull it out of a closed window, the seal is not holding.
Find out the seal type
Measure the length you need
Remove the old seal
Clean the surface
Fit the new seal
Test it
