Fixing a shelf to the wall

A securely fixed shelf will carry books and dishes for years. The most important thing is to choose fixings to suit the wall material and the load.

You will need

Steps

  1. Check the wall and the load

Concrete and brick hold well. With plasterboard, fix into a stud if possible; studs are usually 60 cm apart. Estimate the shelf's load in kilos.

  2. Find cables and pipes

  3. Mark the height

  4. Drill the holes

  5. Fit the plugs and brackets

  6. Fix the shelf board

  7. Test with a load
