Mileage log and mileage allowance

When you use your own car for work drives, your employer can pay a tax-free mileage allowance, but this requires a proper mileage log. Well-kept records also help if you claim a deduction for travel costs in your taxes.

You will need

Steps

  1. Tell business drives and commuting apart

A business drive is travel to do your work, for example to a client or to a training course. The commute between your home and your regular workplace is not a business drive.

  2. Record every drive

  3. Choose a convenient tool

  4. Check this year's allowance

  5. Claim the allowance from your employer

  6. Deduct commuting costs

  7. Report it in MyTax

  8. Keep the documents
