Renewing your driving licence

You must renew your driving licence when the card expires, is lost or your details change. As you get older, a health assessment is also needed to keep your right to drive. This guide tells you how to handle the renewal smoothly.

You will need

• Online banking credentials or a mobile certificate
• A digital photo from a photo studio
• Your current driving licence, if you still have it
• A medical certificate, if one is required

Steps

1. Check the validity of your licence

   A driving licence is valid for a fixed period, shown on the back of the card. Your right to drive may still be valid even if the card expires, but you must have a valid card when driving.

2. Find out whether you need a medical certificate

3. Get a photo

4. Apply for a new licence online

5. Visit a service point if needed

6. Report a lost licence

7. Pay the processing fee

8. Wait for the licence in the post
